Author:Brad Burns

How can I get of my cold sore? This is the question asked by everyone who discovers this affliction for the first time. Unfortunatley there is no permanent cure, however there are ways to deal with the symtoms. The downside to all of this is that there is that there is so much info on treating cold sores it’s hard to know where to start, so lets start at the basics.

In a nutshell cold sores are annoying, small, painful blisters on the lips and nearby skin, and they are caused by the herpes simplex virus, and when you have one please be careful as they’re contagious, especially in the first 2 or 3 days after an outbreak. Now although cold sores are not life-threatening, they can be quite dangerous if left untreated. Don’t get too down if you have a cold sore as you are not alone because they are quite common and they can be controlled but unfortunately they cannot be cured.

Treating a cold sore and how long it lasts depending on your health and your choice of cold sore treatments. Of course, it is now commonly understood there is no permanent cure for cold sores. So this means that really you are in a situation of controlling and preventing outbreak rather than curing. There are many different treatment options available. It is really up to the individual what route they want to go down to reduce the discomfort associated with cold sores and to lessen the duration of the outbreak. One of the main things to bear in mind is that treatments may only reduce the duration of the cold sores by 1 to 2 days. The good news, on the other hand, is that it does ease the pain and irritation. As always for your treatment you can go down the chemical route or the natural route. Natural treatments may include tropical creams or ointments. Chemical treatments, on the other hand normally come in the form of creams which you can get non-prescription. Or you can even try an antiviral medicine (such as acyclovir or famciclovir). One of the best things you can do for yourself though is learn to recognise and avoid triggers that you know are associated with when you have a cold sore.

As well as looking out for triggers, it is a good idea to familiarise yourself with the symptoms associate with cold sores so that you can start treating it sooner rather than later. Before the sore appears you may feel things like itching and burning sensation around the spot where the sore will appear. Symptoms are usually most severe 8 hours after the outbreak and can be quite similar to those of other viral infections and may include fever, swollen glands, fatigue and multiple sores in the mouth and on the gums. Symptoms subside after the initial illness runs its course, but the virus remains in the nerve cells until reactivated. Symptoms may last from seven to ten days, but although the symptoms may disappear, unfortunately the virus does not.

To try and help cut through the fog we have set up a review site at http://coldsorefree.blogspot.com to examine the latest books and solutions geared towards cold sores.

There is no current cure for genital herpes. However, for millions of people with genital herpes, there is a treatment that is proven to dramatically decrease the number of outbreaks a person gets. This latest genital herpes treatment is Valtrex. If you are one of the millions of people who suffer, or think you suffer from Herpes, now is the time to act. Get tested by your doctor, then ask her about using once-daily Valtrex as a possible proactive treatment regimen.

What are the Symptoms?

Before convincing you to get tested and try the latest genital herpes treatment, it is important that you understand the symptoms so that you are not subjected to the same myths that continue to help perpetuate this disease. Genital herpes is more than a blister; in fact, it is a virus that remains dormant in the spine after each outbreak. Most often, people with herpes get the commonly known sore, but sometimes an outbreak is little more than tingling, redness and maybe some bumps. So, if you think you may have it, get tested and get treatment.

Is Valtrex the Only Medication on the Market?

While Valtrex is certainly one of the latest genital herpes treatments to hit the mainstream, it is not the only medication available. There are a number of treatments available: These include acyclovir, Zovirax famciclovir, Famvir and valacyclovir. However, Valtrex is one of the only drugs currently available that is taken everyday. Because of this, it has a greater success rate when it comes to decreasing the number of recurrences.

What are the Side Effects?

Unfortunately, even one of the latest genital herpes treatment, is not without side effects. This is because it is a medication and, like any other drug, sometimes reacts adversely in certain body types. With this in mind, be aware that Valtrex is only intended for patients with a healthy immune system, which includes patients with advanced HIV disease. Also, be sure to inform your doctor should you suffer from kidney problems, because it may be necessary to alter your dosage accordingly.

No, there is no cure for herpes. However, with the latest genital herpes treatment, it is now possible to live a life that is outbreak free. Can you imagine? No more embarrassing and painful sores, which means no more time fidgeting in your chair at work or trying to pick out an outfit that is comfortable when nothing truly is? For this kind of freedom, contact your doctor today and ask her about Valtrex.

For more information from Bill Johnson about Valtrex and genital herpes please check http://www.valtrexsite.com/genital_herpes.htm

Official U.S. policy denies vaccines against bird flu, dengue fever and other deadly viruses to pariah states like North Korea, Iran, Cuba and Syria. This little-known 10-year-old policy, outlined in a must-read report from Robin McDowell of the Associated Press,

“could makes it harder to contain an outbreak of bird flu among chickens in, say, North Korea, which is in the region hardest hit by the virus. Sudan and Iran already have recorded cases of the virus in poultry and Syria is surrounded by affected countries. Cuba, like all nations, is vulnerable because the disease is delivered by migratory birds.”

Effect Measure takes the story one step further in comments about information hoarding and siloing. As the AP points out, the Centers for Disease Control didn’t even know the vaccine embargo is official policy. Given the nature of pandemics, which are no respecters of borders, CDC would have presumably opposed the policy on scientific grounds.

Is it me—or has there been more uninformed reporting than usual over the past few days about the developing outbreak of human swine flu? Could it be the wholesale exodus of experienced health reporters from many newspapers and magazines is having an effect on the quality of coverage? Flu is not a topic that general assignment reporters can easily get up to speed on overnight.

I have read news reports cautioning people not to get near pigs for fear of contracting swine flu.

Not true. The new human swine flu is transmitted from person to person. So you minimize your risk of getting it by keeping your distance from other people, washing hands, reminding folks to cover their nose and mouth when they sneeze.

A number of news articles ominously report that the new human swine flu is H1N1—the same subtype as was responsible for the 1918 pandemic. The implication—that a terrifying type of flu has come back after more than 90 years.

Yes, the 1918 flu was caused by an H1N1 strain. But the H1N1 subtype is now very common. Indeed, it has caused many seasonal flu outbreaks over the past 90 years. The current vaccine even includes a strain of H1N1, first identified in Brisbane in 2007.

So if the new flu is H1N1 and H1N1 subtypes have been around for years, why are health officials so worried? Because the arrangement of genetic components of the new flu have never been seen before—whether in pigs or people. And they are different enough from the recent strains that the body’s immune system may not be able to mount a quickly effective response.

Many news sites are also reporting as fact that the flu is killing more people under the age of 60 than the usual seasonal flu. We don’t actually know this for sure.

Yes, there have been lots of reports of middle-aged people dying from the flu in Mexico. That’s worrisome because it’s the same pattern of fatalities that was seen in the 1918 pandemic. But that is only part of the story. There are other possible explanations for the pattern of middle-aged deaths: maybe those were the folks who went to the hospital first. Maybe health officials haven’t paid as close attention to deaths among the elderly because they are so much more common. It could still be a true cluster of middle-aged deaths but we probably won’t know that for at least another couple of weeks.

Lots of headlines are also proclaiming that countries are racing to “prevent the pandemic.” Sorry, that horse is out of the barn. This flu has already been confirmed in Mexico, the U.S., Canada and cases are suspected in New Zealand, Israel and Western Europe. If there is going to be a pandemic, there will be a pandemic. That will depend on how virulent the virus is—something that we don’t know yet.

What people can do is mitigate the damage. Sort of like a hurricane. You can’t stop it from coming ashore but you can try to protect as many people as possible from drowning.

In addition to newsfeeds at the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization, here are some of the folks I have come to trust for information on the current flu outbreak:

Anything written by Helen Branswell, Canadian medical reporter. Her coverage of flu and the potential for pandemic flu over the past several years has been stellar. She is also @diseasegeek on Twitter.

Tara Smith at Aetiology. Tara is an assistant professor of epidemiology, whose research focuses on pathogens that jump from animals to humans. Very readable and very smart.

The Reveres at Effect Measure. Anonymous, opinionated but well-informed, from public health professionals.

Crof at H5N1. Crof has been a smart aggregator about avian flu and potential pandemic news for years but is now including human swine flu.

The pandemic flu section of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota.

Good, if technical overview on swineflu, also at CIDRAP.

And here are some web resources to understand flu and potential flu pandemics better. I’m chasing down links to some other tools and will add them as I learn them.

One-stop access to US government information on pandemic flu

The Nieman Reports special issue on preparing to cover pandemic flu

Tara Smith updates us from Mongolia on the new outbreak of hand-foot-and-mouth disease that has just been reported there. Tara is both an honest-to-goodness scientist and a blogger–although she hasn’t been blogging as much on Aetiology this month. Her specialty is pathogens that jump to humans from other animals.

Other public health blogs by academics that I particularly like to read include Effect Measure (always provocative) and The Pump Handle (with a focus on occupational health).

But for the most part, the number of global health professionals in the blogosphere are few and far between. I am keeping an eye on Global Health Delivery, a kind of blog aborning, to see what develops there. Otherwise, the slack is being taken up by the passionate (H5N1 and THDblog) and a few journalists here and there.

The purpose of Acne Free Clear Skin System is to clear the skin during an acne outbreak and help to prevent future outbreaks.

Pros: Those who suffer with acne are well aware of the fact that just because an acne breakup clears up (eventually) that doesn’t mean that the acne is really gone. Treatment for skin that is acne prone is an ongoing procedure.

Of course, the main objective when an acne outbreak does occur is to clear it up as quickly and as efficiently as possible. The Acne Free Clear Skin System is a three-step system that is designed to clear up an acne outbreak and then, with regular treatment, prevent future outbreaks.

The three steps in the Acne Free Clear Skin System are; (1) Cleaning and purifying the skin, (2) Applying a renewing toner and (3) applying a repair lotion. The treatment instructions say that this complete three-step program needs to be every day and twice a day to help clear acne outbreaks as well as prevent future outbreaks.

Cons: This product, while an excellent value, may not be suitable for severe cases of acne. Because it is designed to help prevent breakouts, people with scarring or severe acne should not expect miracles.

Guarantee: There is a very generous guarantee policy that reads in part: “All items purchased through CosmeticMall.com have a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee. If you are not satisfied for any reason you may return the product for a full refund (even if you have tried the product).”

Value for money: The Acne Free Clear Skin System is an excellent value.
